SERMI (Security-related Repair and Maintenance Information) is a mandatory, standardized European accreditation scheme launched in the UK on 1 April 2026. It serves as a “digital passport” allowing independent garages to legitimately access manufacturer security data (keys, immobilizers, ECU coding). It replaces individual brand registration, enhancing security, and standardizing access for vetted, qualified technicians.

SERMI Explained for UK garages
SERMI is practically here for the UK automotive industry, and it’s set to change how garages access vehicle security information.
Watch the Garage Hive webinar we are contributing to, where we break down what it means for independent workshops.
Mark from Garage Vitals shares a real garage owner’s perspective, alongside Ray Dilsons from Garage Hive, who will explain how the right systems and processes can help garages manage the new requirements.

At Garage Vitals, we specialise in providing the IT support independent garages need to run dealer-level OEM software with confidence.
Modern vehicles depend heavily on programming and software, and we ensure you have the correct OEM tools, setup, and access to work to manufacturer standards – without the stress of managing complex IT systems.
We provide OEM and dealer diagnostic software installation, configuration, and ongoing support for IT issues, available as ad-hoc assistance or through a subscription plan. For workshops that want a turnkey solution, we also supply pre-configured, fully tested laptops, ready to use straight out of the box.
By handling updates, maintenance, and issuing alerts when manufacturers experience issues, we free your workshop to stay focused on what you do best – repairing and servicing vehicles – while we take care of the IT in the background.
At Garage Vitals, our goal is simple: the tool just works when you need it. You get reliable, manufacturer-level diagnostics without losing valuable time to software headaches.

Appearing on the On The Ramp Podcast, Mark shares how diagnostics, OEM tools, and dealer access shaped his journey — and why even the best independent garages often need outside support.
